What is the BodySex Method?

The BodySex Method, created by legendary sex educator Dr. Betty Dodson, is a workshop format that teaches women self-pleasure techniques through four core rituals: Group Share, Genital Show & Tell, Erotic Recess, and Non-Sexual Group Massage.

As a certified BodySex facilitator trained by Carlin Ross (Betty’s successor), I now guide women through this transformative process that combines anatomy education, shame release, and practical pleasure techniques.

My Journey: From Playa del Carmen to NYC for Certification

I live in paradise – Playa del Carmen, Mexico – where the beach is my backyard and life moves at a delicious pace. But a few summer ago, I packed my bags and flew to LaGuardia Airport with my friend Regine, who I’d convinced to experience a BodySex Circle with me.

Why would I leave Mexican paradise for a weekend of getting naked with strangers? Because some transformations require pilgrimages.

The Drive to Menla

We rented a car and drove deep into the Catskill Mountains to Menla, a retreat center that would host our BodySex workshop. The drive was gorgeous – creeks and rivers winding through mountain forests. We stopped for selfies, of course, but also to ground ourselves before what we knew would be an intense experience.

Preparing to Lead

As a leader in training, I arrived early to help prepare the space. Picture this: assistant facilitators arranging soft blankets, testing vibrators, organizing bottles of almond oil and lube. We were creating a temple for pleasure – a safe space for women to explore their bodies without shame.

I’ll be honest – I had serious nerves about maneuvering around my large goddess belly while sitting in the circle. There’s a part of me that believed sex educators should look a certain way (spoiler: that’s bullshit). Laura reminded me to show up proudly, regardless of my size.

The Four BodySex Rituals (What Really Happens)

Twenty-eight women gathered, divided into two circles of fourteen. Here’s what we actually did:

Ritual 1: Group Share

Every woman answered two questions:

  • “How do you feel about your body?”
  • “How do you feel about your orgasm?”

I shared my sadness about years of plucking and waxing my vulva for men’s preferences rather than my own pleasure. I’d established a boundary that anything I do to my body would be solely for MY pleasure, not for the male gaze. But I grieved for my younger self who didn’t know she could opt out and say, “My body, my rules.”

Ritual 2: Genital Show & Tell

This is the part that shocks people. Yes, we really look at each other’s vulvas.

I was terrified about positioning myself comfortably with my belly. Laura had me practice beforehand. When my turn came, I maneuvered around my goddess belly, displayed my vulva with a hand mirror and light, and felt completely liberated.

Every woman’s vulva was different. Every single one was called beautiful. The shame about my belly, my size, my “not enoughness” – it all faded away.

This ritual teaches: Your vulva is normal. Your vulva is beautiful. Vulva diversity is real.

Ritual 3: Erotic Recess

On day two, Carlin taught specific self-pleasure techniques that we practiced together. Yes, we masturbated in the same room. No, it wasn’t weird – it was revolutionary.

I had delicious orgasms surrounded by women’s moans and pleasure sounds. Between pleasuring sessions, I ate chocolate-dipped apricots and supported other women in finding their pleasure. It felt ancient and tribal – women sharing sexual knowledge as they must have done for millennia before shame culture took over.

Ritual 4: Non-Sexual Group Massage

Four women massaged my back and legs with almond oil in the most loving, non-judgmental way. After two days of intensity, this ritual brought us back to non-sexual but deeply caring touch.

My Biggest Takeaways

Sexuality has no age limit. Women in their 70s were having better orgasms than women in their 20s – because they knew their bodies.

Pleasure has no size requirement. My goddess belly didn’t prevent anything. My shame did.

Once you understand how your vulva works, orgasms become easy. Not mysterious. Not lucky. Predictable and reliable.

Who Is BodySex For?

  • Women who rarely or never orgasm
  • Women who fake it
  • Women who think something’s wrong with their vulva
  • Women ready to reclaim their bodies
  • Women of ALL ages, sizes, backgrounds

As a Black woman in mostly white circles, I’m now creating BodySex spaces specifically for WOC, because representation in pleasure education matters.

Why I Traveled 2,000 Miles for This

Some might think flying from Mexico to NYC for a sex workshop is extreme. But consider:

  • How many years have you struggled with orgasms?
  • How much has shame cost you in pleasure?
  • What would reliable orgasms be worth?

That flight was the best investment I ever made in my pleasure.

BodySex Online vs In-Person

In-Person (like my NYC experience):

  • Full immersion over 2 days
  • Physical presence of other women
  • Retreat setting
  • Travel often required

Online (what I now offer):

  • Multiple sessions over weeks
  • Privacy of your own home
  • Accessible worldwide
  • No travel needed

Both formats include all four rituals and the same transformation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you really get completely naked? A: In person, yes. Online, you keep your shirt on, but bottoms/panties off. The vulnerability is part of the healing.

Q: Is the genital show & tell required? A: Challenge by choice. You can observe without sharing. Most women find it the most transformative part.

Q: Can I do BodySex with you in Mexico? A: Yes! I offer online sessions from Playa del Carmen and occasionally host in-person circles here.

Q: What if I don’t orgasm during the workshop? A: No pressure to orgasm. You’re learning techniques. Many women have their breakthrough afterward.

Q: Is this appropriate for sexual abuse survivors? A: Many survivors find BodySex healing. We go at your pace with full consent always.
